Ways to be happy when the blues hit.

One cannot stay in a state of happiness 24 hours a day, there are times when we feel low for we are only humans. Our own happiness greatly depends on ourselves. It is a choice as well as an art to learn to be genuinely happy.

There are many ways to beat the blues and cheer up.

Reconnect with nature and your hobbies: It might be strolling in the woods, doing some gardening, playing in the rain or just contemplating the beauty of nature. Did you know that the sun provides you with free vitamin D ? Yes ! Go out whenever you can and enjoy the sun. Spend time doing what you love.

Music Therapy : Listening to music (not sad love songs, of course ) instantly elevates your mood and lowers stress (Stress management – tips). This also include singing, playing musical instruments or dancing.

Food (well food makes me happy) or grab your favorite drink : It is important to eat well to allow the brain to function normally. Many vitamins and nutrients from food such as zinc, magnesium, calcium, iron, omega acids etc help as they act as stress relievers and avoid mood swings.

Meditate & Exercise : Do you always not feel sleepy and moody after a long day at the office, just sitting and being in front of the computer ? The simplest remedy to boost up your energy and feel fresher is by getting active (not on facebook). I personally like to go for jogging or have a yoga session after work. I feel a lot better this way and on top I am also keeping my body and mind healthy.

Sleep & Power naps : Japan’s work culture allows employees to take naps during work hours. They believe that the workers are able to work more efficiently and be more productive. Often that 5 minutes nap that you take feels like you gained hours of sleep and you feel refreshed and fit after that.

Help someone, make their day and yours too : It might be cooking for your parents or any little things that you can do for someone else to bring a smile to their face. This will in turn have a positive effect on you too.

Go out on your own or with a friend : This will keep your mind distracted and you can also enjoy some good company. Talking and spending time with people close to your heart have scientifically been proven to increase happiness level.

Set day objectives and rejoice while ticking off the completed tasks : There is no point in stressing about completing the tasks, just enjoy while doing so and reward yourself at the end of the day.

Life is short, choose happiness 🙂
